Veteran South India star and serial actor/director, Captain Raju passed away on Monday.
At a young age of 68, he passed away at his residence in Kochi. The cremation is scheduled to be held later in the day, as per media reports.
Raju, made his debut in a movie called Rakhtam, in 1981 and further went on to act in several Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. In his long span of movies for nearly four decades, he also featured in some Hindi and English films. He has over 500 movies to his credit.
The actor was airlifted from Oman to Kochi in July this year, when he suffered a stroke and fell unconscious in a flight. He was on his way to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend his son’s wedding in the US. However, the flight was promptly diverted then and landed in Muscat, Oman.
He was called, Captain, due to his army background. He directed two films as well besides appearing in a number of Malayalam serials, as reported by the News Minute.
Captain Raju was indeed a versatile performer, who had acted in serious as well as comic roles. Some of his finest performances include Pavanayi in the every hilarious Mohanlal-Sreenivasan starrer Nadodikkaatu. This was a role which he reprised in his second film that he directed – Mr. Pavanayi 99.99.
He is survived by his wife, Prameela and son Ravi Raju.
