PM Narendra Modi, the biopic on the prime minister which has Vivek Oberoi playing the titular role, finally released on May 24.
The Election Commission had placed a ban on it since it could influence the voters during the model code of conduct. Initially the EC said that the film couldn’t be released till May 19, the last phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. However, the makers then shifted the release date to May 24, a day after the results were counted.
The film shows the journey of Narendra Modi from his early days in the RSS to his rise as the chief minister of Gujarat and finally as the Prime Minister of India.
Not just most reviewers and Modi critiques, but even fans of PM Narendra Modi have highly criticised the Omung Kumar directorial as a hagiography (a biography that treats its subject with undue reverence), saying that the PM has been deified in the film.
According to the latest report on the Boxofficeindia.com, the film has managed to collect a total of Rs 1.75 crore to Rs 2 crore approximately on its first day at the box office.
Below was one reaction from Narendra Modi’s admirer, who was furious after seeing the film. The moviegoer called the movie a mockery of all sorts and asked everyone associated with the film to go and drown themselves in the Ganga river.

This is how several other online users reacted as well. Going by the record, one can say that banning the movie during elections perhaps actually favourved Narendra Modi.

As a tacky, laughably bad bio-pic, it inhabits muddled, post-truth territory. It’s uncritical, unquestioning, low on fact, high on rhetoric. A Cheap Movie with Cheaper Acting about the Cheapest Man Alive.

.@vivekoberoi you did amazing job in Modi’s Biopic.
My friend was in coma from the last 3 years so today I decided to take him along with me for the movie.
Just after 5 mins to the movie he screamed “Ae kaun hai re yeh, maaro isko”

Narendra Modi Biopic has got really bad reviews. But no worries. Vivek Oberoi can get away by blaming Nehru for his bad performance.
