Interestingly, Muslim Man plays role of protagonist Balasaheb Thackeray
Long connecting holiday weekends are always tricky with Bollywood releases.
Next year Republic Day weekend wont be any different. Infact it will be more crowded as four Bollywood biggies have lined up for the box-office on the same date.
Out of the four releases, it is interesting to note that 3 of them are biopics being made on different influencers of society. While Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 revolves around the life of Math wiz Anand Kumar, Kangana Ranaut will clash once again with her period saga Manikarnika : The Queen of Jhansi. The third biopic is being made on the journey and life of Late Shiv Sena Supremo, Bal Thackeray. The fourth film is Emraan Hashmi’s first production Cheat India with Bhushan Kumar, Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar revolving around engineering and other institutes in India.
While other 3 films are slated to be released on 25th January 2019, Thackeray biopic is scheduled to hit the theatres on 23rd January 2019, which also commemorates with the late politician’s 93rd birth anniversary.
Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena when quizzed on the change of dates for their release since they were clashing with other stars, categorically stated,
I can’t stop other filmmakers from releasing their films on the same weekend, but no matter how many films come up against us, the country is waiting for Thackeray. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has played him extremely well and while people are aware that Balasaheb was a politician, cartoonist and an orator, we are showcasing his rise from a common man to a superman which makes for interesting viewing
He further added,
During my recent travels aboard, I also sensed a growing excitement among the diaspora. We were the first to announce the release and I’m not going to shift the date come what may
Kamal Jain, the producer of Manikarnika, emphasized that being a period drama and given the subject: Independence Day and Republic Day were the only two choices for them.
I don’t know about any clashes nor do I want to comment on them. January 25 is an apt date for us, which is why we have zeroed in on it. I’m not worried about the competition
Tanuj who is currently in Lucknow where Cheat India is currently being shot, cites a similar reason for opting for the same date.
Our title and theme organically lend themselves to the Republic Day weekend
Republic Day is a desired date for many filmmakers as it is a national holiday and also promises a long weekend, thereby, ensuring bigger crowds and collections.
