Chella follows Chowkidar! BJP MP says “We have to steal because our salaries are too less”

Harish Dwivedi with BJP Leader Smriti Irani

BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh MP, Harish Dwivedi made a highly controversial statement publicly on Sunday.

While pitching for a higher salary for lawmakers at an event, Dwivedi said a lawmaker gets less salary than of a primary school teacher. If people want an MP to be non-corrupt, the government surely needs to raise their salaries. The BJP MP from Basti parliamentary seat quoted:
Harish Dwivedi, BJP MP, UP

“An MP will have to hire a dozen of people if he needs to work efficiently in his constituency. But his monthly salary is less than of a primary school teacher. If you want that a lawmaker never steals money, the government needs to hike his salary. A lawmaker has to collect fund from other means to carry out works in his constituency.”

Dwivedi further said that he will raise the matter with the BJP leadership. He also couldn’t stop praising Delhi chief minister of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal for hiking salary of MLAs in the national capital. After coming to power with a thumping 67 out of 70 seats, the ruling government in Delhi had passed a Bill seeking 400 per cent hike in the basic salary of MLAs and ministers besides a hefty increase in perks and allowances in 2015.

Launching a scathing attack on the Modi government in September this year, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had accused it of “betraying” the people by not keeping its promises and alleged that corruption had taken “deeper roots” since it came to power.

Mrs. Gandhi had also questioned the popular slogan of Modi’s ‘Na khaunga, na khane dunga’ (would not take bribes, nor let anyone do so) and alleged that corruption was deeply rooted under Modi’s regime.
