In Gurugram, Haryana, an incident of harassing a Muslim man returning from his ramzan prayers had been reported yesterday.
Mohammad Barkat, 25, was allegedly accosted by a group of men on his way back from the Jama Masjid on Saturday evening. He was allegedly referred to with a derogatory term, asked to remove his skull cap and chant:
“Jai Shri Ram”
While the usual supporters raising their voice for the minorities were vocal enough, newly-elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir too took a stand on the same. He sought “exemplary action” against those behind the alleged assault on the Gurugram resident. In his tweet this morning, Gambhir wrote:
“In Gurugram Muslim man told to remove skullcap, chant Jai Shri Ram. It is deplorable. Exemplary action needed by Gurugram authorities.”
“We are a secular nation where @Javedakhtarjadu writes “ओ पालन हारे, निर्गुण और न्यारे” & @RakeyshOmMehra gave us d song “अर्ज़ियाँ” in Delhi 6.”

While Gambhir sounded absolutely logical, the right-wing trolls were prompt to pounce on him for this comment, where he called out a wrong done to a minority citizen of India. The trolling and abuses stretched to such an extent, that Gambhir was forced to share another tweet from his account within a period of three hours. In his subsequent tweet, former cricketer wrote:
“My thoughts on secularism emanate from honourable PM Mr Modi’s mantra “सबका साथ, सबका विकास, सब का विश्वास”
I am not limiting myself to Gurugram incident alone, any oppression based on caste/religion is deplorable. Tolerance & inclusive growth is what idea of India is based on.”

Perhaps Gambhir is yet to learn the tricks of the trade where everything that is said and done by the top leadership may not be driven into action. Below are some of the absurd responses Gambhir faced for simple solidarity and secular tweet in this particular incident.
All vioIence should be condemned but don’t get carried away so fast.
Let it be investigated. What if it was a personal quarrel, not communal?
Such incidents happen other way round also but media don’t cover them.
Don’t use isolated incidents to form a generalized opinion.

When PM added “Sabka Vishwas” to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”..
He didn’t mean appeasement.
Study well the situation before uttering nonsense.

प्रिय गौती सर,
अब जब आप राजनीति में आ ही गए हो तो उड़ते हुए तीर को इग्नोर करना सीख लो वरना ज़िन्दगी केजरीवाल जैसी हो जाती है।

The below handle @_NAN_DINI is followed by PM Modi himself.
Were you paying attention during the PMs speech to new MPs?
You don’t have to comment on everything.

Buddy two cents. While your gesture is appreciated, you’re not going to last too long in the BJP with this kind of independent thinking. Just see the replies. Sooner or later you’ll be asked to fall in line like the others had to last 5 years. Good luck.

Mr. Gambhir, we don’t want you to limit yourself since you are now MP of all. But when you raise your voice raise it for all and avoid glorifying fake seculars like Javed Akhtar . Javed Akhtar is fake secular. Look at his recent tweets…
