Prime Minister Narendra Modi met religious head of Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, at a mosque in Indore on Friday.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, PM Modi had immensely praised the Dawoodi Bohra community for its honesty in trade and business. PM Modi said the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’  (the world is one family) gives India an identity different from all other countries.

“The concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam gives a distinct identity to India from the rest of the world and the Bohra community is an example of it,” he said, as reported by India TV News.

He also met the religious head of the Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. The event was also attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The prime minister’s visit to the mosque was being seen as very significant as Assembly polls are due in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh by year-end, as reported by India Today.

Around 2.5 lakh Dawoodi Bohras are estimated to live in the state, mainly in Indore, Ujjain and Burhanpur districts. Thousands of community members had arrived from various parts of the world to hear their religious head’s sermons during during the ongoing nine-day religious discourse. Dawoodi Bohras are a sect within Shia Islam.

However, Sharad Pawar led NCP’s Majeed Memon took a scathing dig at PM Modi in an interview to ANI today. He remarked that PM went to meet the Bohra community in Indore assuming he will be able to win their hearts. He also said that the minute PM tries to divert from the hardcore Hindutva line, he is pressured from the RSS and VHP. Now its upto the PM to decide what he wants to do, as he will be left neither here nor there with this visit. As per Memon, situation for PM does seem such in the current scenario.

Majeed Memon, 72, is a criminal lawyer and a leader of Nationalist Congress Party. He is also a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
