Lal was mocked by fans for supporting DEMO in 2017

Malyalam Superstar, Mohanlal tweeted about his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3rd Sep. The tweet went viral in a matter of minutes and generated immense political interest.

Speculations are rife that the Malayalam superstar will contest the 2019 national election on a BJP ticket from Kerala.

Mohanlal, posted that he had met PM Modi “On the auspicious day of Janmashtami” and briefed him about his Vishwa Santhi Foundation and its work.

“He has assured all support and offered to participate in the Global Malayalee Round table that can formulate futuristic solutions for a New Kerala,” Mohanlal said at a press conference.

Mohanlal further said the PM had assured all possible assistance for Kerala, where the worst floods in a century killed nearly 300 people and displaced thousands of others.

This morning, PM Modi reciprocated with a tweet along his photo with the actor, who has acted in more than 200 films and shows no signs of fading out. He also praised the range of social service initiatives adopted by the actor.

However, is not the first meeting between the two. Last year, PM Modi had nominated Mohanlal to be part of the central government’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement and the actor’s presence had been considered to help promote the cleanliness initiative that the PM was spearheading.

Nonetheless, BJP leaders have commented saying it is “too early” to say anything about the national award winning actor being a possible BJP candidate or even campaigning for the ruling party.

Enlisting the wildly popular film star will certainly boost the BJP’s arsenal in Left-ruled Kerala, where the BJP has never been in power as reported by NDTV.

Unconfirmed reports doing the rounds suggest that Mohanlal is the first choice of the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to contest in Thiruvananthapuram, giving direct fight to crowd puller and charismatic Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.

In January 2017, Mohanlal had blogged all in praise of Prime Minister Modi and his decision to announce demonetisation. Lal’s comparison of queues in front of ATMs to those in front of liquor shops, theatres and religious places did not go down well with his fans then. His own supporters mocked him by stating that Lal was privileged enough not to stand in any queue and thus could afford to make such statements.
