An incident of harassing a Muslim man has been reported from Gurugram.

Mohammad Barkat, 25-year-old man from Bihar was beaten by a mob in the NCR city last night when he was returning home after offering prayers at the Jama Masjid. Mohammad was allegedly asked to remove his skullcap and forcefully chant:
Mohammad Barkat,

“Jai Shree Ram”

A group of men attack him outside a sweet shop, threw his cap on the ground and hurled abuses at him. However, when Barkat tried to defend himself, he was told that he was not allowed to wear a skull cap in the area. The Hindu quoted Barkat saying:
Mohammad Barkat

“One of the men called me with an offensive word and told me that skullcap was not allowed in this area. When I told him that I was returning from a mosque, he slapped me.

He also asked me to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Jai Shri Ram. When I refused, he threatened to feed me pork.”

Barkat also said that his shirt was torn apart when he tried to run away. An FIR has been registered, however no arrests have been made so far.

This incident comes a day after the report of three people being tortured and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni emerged and went viral across social media.

In March this year, members of a Muslim family were attacked by goons on the day of Holi (March 21) and were asked not to play cricket. The victims were thrashed with batons, iron rods, hockey sticks and water pipes. Reports claimed that the goons also asked the Muslim family to “Go to Pakistan”.

On Saturday, while addressing his party’s chief ministers and parliamentarians at the Central Hall of parliament, PM Modi accused the opposition of deceiving the poor and minorities and ensuring that they live in far for the sake of vote bank politics.

It will be interesting to hear our Prime Minister Narendra Modi 2.0 if he issues a strong statement on harassment of Muslims reported with videos from across the country.
