A delegation of senior Congress leaders on Wednesday had submitted a memorandum and a number of annexures to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) explaining the alleged ‘irregularities’ in the Rafale fighter jet deal and asked the auditor to prepare a report on it, as reported by the Indian Express.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that all evidence and facts relating to the Rafale deal have been submitted to the CAG and they expect the truth to prevail after the report is made public.

“We explained to the CAG how Hindustan Aeronautics Limited was removed from the deal to benefit a private player. We hope the CAG will give its report soon. The CAG has assured us that they are already examining all aspects of the deal. We expect that when the report on the deal comes out in public domain, the real scam will come out and the truth shall prevail,” PTI quoted.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said,

“We have given a detailed memorandum along with enclosures on the irregularities and acts of omission and commission by the Government in the fighter jet deal. We expect the CAG will prepare a report soon and present it before Parliament.”

The 20-point memorandum entails the chronological history of the deal and provides annexures as ‘proof of how the current NDA government distorted the original tender’ signed by its predecessor UPA government.

On 21st September, a new twist has emerged in the Rafale saga, affirming that indeed Government of India had a role in appointing the deal to Anil Ambani owned Reliance. Julien Bouissou, South Asia correspondent, Le Monde put out a tweet sharing some gory details of the contract.

He addressed his tweet to Indian Journalists sharing the extract of the article published this afternoon in the Media Part. He quoted President François Hollande on the Rafale Deal and also translated some excerpts in English for reference. He quoted Hollande,

“I had no choice in this regard. It was the Indian government that proposed this service group and Dassault who negotiated with Ambani. We had no choice, we took the interlocutor who was given to us. This is why, this group did not have to do me any grace whatsoever. I could not even imagine that there was any connection with a film by Juliet Gayet (his partner).”

Congress stood vindicated and lashed out strongly affirming that Rafale was a sweet deal handed over to one of the crony capitalists of the current government.

  1. There is definitely something fishy about the entire deal as Reliance defence a newly launched organisation could not have bagged the deal without the support of the current government.
