One of the hottest properties in world cricket, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been dropped by Kolkata Knight Riders for the next IPL Season.
Starc had been bought for a whopping Rs. 9.4 crores by the Superstar Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise. However, he missed the 2018 season due to a leg injury. The bowler informed the media on Wednesday that he had been released by the franchise with immediate effect. He expressed dismay that the same was communicated to him via a text message couple of days ago. The Cricket Australia official website quoted,
“I got a text message two days ago from the owners of Kolkata saying I’ve been released from my contract.”
The 28-year-old was away for the entire 2018 season due to his injury that he sustained during the South Africa Tour. The left-arm seamer also added that he may be in Austrailia during the 2019 IPL Season as well. As of now, he feels it will be a great opportunity for him to take rest and hit back afresh before the World Cup in England.
“That little period of time has really paid off for the body. If I don’t play the IPL next year it’s a good opportunity to freshen up for a massive six months of cricket in the UK,” he said.
A few weeks ago, Indian Captain Virat Kohli too has expressed that he preferred the Indian pacers to skip the Indian Premier League in 2019 so that they are able to give their best during the World Cup.
The IPL next year is scheduled from 29th March to 19th May, and the World Cup Championship will soon commence on 30th May thereafter. The IPL auctions are due next month in Goa and it will be interesting to see which players will be picked up considering that many could choose to skip major part of the tournament.
