Pune Police has booked four jawans of the Indian Army on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman on multiple occasions over a span of four years.
What makes this case even more shocking is that the rape victim was mute and deaf. The woman is reportedly a widow and also has a 12-year-old son. She worked at the Military Hospital in Khadki as a Grade IV employee.
It was only when the hearing and speech impaired woman had approached an NGO based out of Indore in July that enabled to stop this grave torture on her repeatedly. In her statement given to the NGO, with the help of sign language interpreter, the lady lodged a complaint with the commandant of the hospital. On Monday, she further approached Harinarayanachari Mishra who is the Deputy Inspector General in Indore.

In the FIR, she narrated the series of events which had been taking place at the hospital. She claimed that one of the jawans raped her in the bathroom of a family ward at the time of her night shift. She also exclaimed that when she reached out to her supervisor nursing assistant through a text message, he chose to join hands with the accused himself. As per the FIR statement, instead of helping her out, he too raped her and even threatened her of making her text message viral.
Further the woman alleged that they were then joined by two other jawans and she was reportedly raped repeatedly for more than four years by them. Adding further, she also said that the jawans even recorded a video of the act which they used to blackmail her.
She also complained to the administrative heads in the hospital, however, none of her accusations were paid heed too. The woman had also requested to be assigned only with day-shifts, but the same was overlooked as well.
An investigation is underway and disciplinary action against the accused will be taken soon, as reported by TOI.
Rajendra Mohite, Senior Inspector at Khadki Police Station told TOI,
“A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 for rape and 354 for molestation. An inquiry has also been initiated against the four accused jawans.”
Speaking to TOI, a senior army officer confirmed that the two main accused jawans were from the Army Medical Corps (AMC) who were pursuing courses at the hospital.
Currently, one is posted with the Northern Command in Kashmir while the other is attached with the Lucknow-based military establishment. Of the other two jawans, one is still posted at the hospital while the other was transferred out of Pune recently,” the officer said.
