Hatchback Launches in India 2019

We shall be ushering into the New Year 2019 soon and Indians are in for a bonanza with latest upcoming hatchbacks in the market. We take you through variety of options from which you can pick your drive!

I) Maruti Wagon R

2019 will witness the launch of the all-new Maruti WagonR. This new follow up version will be similar to the previous model and continue with its trademark slab-sided tall-boy design. The new model will offer ample space for its size and you will not complain for the luggage bay dimensions as well. While the Japanese market has already started witnessing its sale, the Indian market will see a completely different look. Toned-down styling and comparatively longer bonnet to accomodate the 1.0 litre petrol engine is what we can expect. An EV (electric vehicle) version will follow as well. While the engine will be offered with a five-speed manual gearbox, there will be an AMT automatic version as well. As quoted by Auto Car India, this car will not be built on Suzuki’s new Heartect platform to enable them keep the costs affordable. This car can face a tough competition with the TATA Tiago, Renault Kwid, New Hyundai Santro and it’s own parent company’s Celerio.

PRICING : Between Rs. 4.5 Lakhs – Rs. 5.5 Lakhs

II) Hyundai Grand i10

Hyundai’s all-new Grand i10 has been spied tested in India and is likely to be launched globally sometime next year and around October 2019 in India. India is one of the top markets for current generation Grand i10 than the ones sold abroad. However, Hyundai plans to come up with a separate version for the global market which will be focusing more on rear legroom and backseat comfort. This i10 model is expected to have many design cues from the upcoming Elantra facelift from the same Hyundai family itself. A hexagonal front grille and wide headlamps and tail-lamps will form the two of the exterior design features expected on the hatchback. What we can vouch for is that it is already a feature packed car, however, Hyundai could possibly add many more to the new model. The current car’s engines though will be carried over with updates.

In terms of design, the next-generation Grand i10 is said to borrow a lot of design cues from the upcoming Hyundai Elantra facelift. A hexagonal front grille and wider headlamps and tail-lamps are two of the exterior design features expected on the hatchback. The Grand i10 is already feature-packed but Hyundai could add even more features to the new model. Expect the current car’s engines to be carried over with updates.

PRICING : Between Rs. 5 Lakhs – Rs. 7 Lakhs

III) FORD Figo Facelift

The all new updated Figo version will be coming with revised styling, improved cabin and many more features along with 1.2 litre petrol engine. The Ford Figo will also be available with a torque converter automatic that will be automatically paired with the new petrol engine.

Expect the car to be launched in India Markets in early 2019

PRICING : Between Rs. 6 Lakhs – Rs. 8 Lakhs

IV) Tata 45X

This one will be Tata Motor’s reply to the Hyundai’s i20 or Maruti’s Suzuki Baleno and even Honda’s Jazz. The car launch is expected almost a year from now, towards the end of 2019 and the model in concept had been previewed by potential buyers at the 2018 Auto Expo this year. The new Impact Design 2.0 styling language has been used on this hatchback and spy images thus far have revealed a well balanced and smart shape. You can look for a lot of practical room space within which will come with a free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen that also doubles as a display for the reverse camera. The company can also throw up a surprise with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox on the 45X.

PRICING : Between Rs. 6 Lakhs – Rs. 9 Lakhs

V) Volkswagen Polo GTI

Polo GTI will be in its sixth generation now. The Volkswagen Polo GTI provides space for five and a 2.0-litre petrol engine, making 200hp and 320Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch auto ‘box. Volkswagen is likely to bring it in as a CBU and thus the pricing will be nearly double than the original Polo. We expect this car to hit Indian roads only by end of 2019.

PRICING : Between Rs. 20 Lakhs Upwards

VI) Mercedes Benz A Class

The old royal touch with the Benz star is set to come up with an all new version at its entry level. A new model for A-class has been modified on the basis of the outgoing model’s MFA platform. The same also features a 30mm longer wheelbase and is the adoption of the alrger platform that has led to an incremental increase in the car’s external dimensions. This will surely enable Mercedes as a brand to improvise on the practical usage and appeal of the A-class version. We can easily expect a new hatch version which will offer vastly improved levels of refinement. The brand plans to launch this version by early 2019.

PRICING : Between Rs. 30 Lakhs to Rs. 40 Lakhs
